I read on Twitter that HotDoc now lets you search specifically for clinics that are willing to administer AstraZeneca vaccine to under-60s, so I’ve now made use of that function and booked an appointment. The soonest I could get was for Monday 16th though. I’m just praying I navigated the maze of bureaucracy correctly and nothing’s gonna go awry by the time I turn up 🙏

Whaaaat. I feel like going from “zero cases” to “week-long lockdown” in under 24 hours has to be some kind of record.
Anyway, lockdown number 6. At what point do we get a free coffee 😂
Git for Writing
In recent days, I’ve been making good progress on the novel I’ve been working on, off and on, for years. Back in 2017, I “completed” a first draft (the third quarter was still much too rushed, but at least there were no outright missing bits) and since then I’ve been trying to refine it into something actually presentable. One complication I found was that, while …
Love to be doing some mandatory training module for work and then at slide 59 of 69 my internet temporarily goes down and the whole module is in some dodgy format where it’s now loading forever and the only way to get my cursor back is reload the page and start from the beginning! 🤬
Update: Oh thank God. I did reload and it turns out it silently saved my progress somewhere so I only have to redo a couple of slides. Crisis averted 😮💨
This morning, Gidget actually led us to her harness and started prodding it and indicating—she’s coming to accept that the harness and leash is her ticket to outside! 😸 She had a blast a) trying to chase off Gracie, despite the leash and b) chewing these flower things.
Today we walked all the way from our local beach to Red Bluff. To actually get across to the south side of the cliff, there were some really steep sections making for an unexpected challenge in the middle of our walk 😅 But exhausted as we now feel, it was totally worth it.
OK, I have to share this because it makes me crack up every time I go back to it. You might remember a while back that Hawaiians got a false alarm of an incoming missile, caused by someone “pressing the wrong button”. That was terrifying to many people, and not the thing that cracks me up. However, the incident did spawn this great meme, riffing on poor web design practices to explain how such a thing could occur… (via)
Chillin’ with Gidget this afternoon. A new pair of runners I’d ordered arrived in the mail (see top left of frame); relief, since I hadn’t got any email updates since “we’re preparing it in our warehouse” 😅 They’re supposed to be waterproof, which’ll be useful on beach walks!
My Preferred Olympic Winner Order
Watching the Olympics this morning, I think I’ve decided the order in which I like to see countries win events. It’d be easy to say “I just want my country to win everything”, but actually I don’t 😉 That’d be really boring and no fun at all. So, I reckon my order goes:
- small or underdeveloped countries that don’t see much Olympics success (e.g. Bermuda, …
Had a telephone appointment with my GP this morning to discuss the results of last week’s ultrasounds. Each of them turned up an abnormality, but neither of them is really dangerous at least. I seem to have a kind of benign liver lesion, along with polycystic ovaries (…and technically I meet the diagnostic criteria for PCOS itself, but with no evidence of insulin resistance or high androgen levels, idk…). Specialist appointments are in the works to confirm the diagnoses and establish what kind of management might be required. It feels good to have an explanation, even though it would’ve been better still not to have this body weirdness in the first place.
